Scenario Planning of Future Freight and Passenger Traffic Flows across the U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada Borders

The U.S. Department of Transportation, through the Federal Highway Administration, initiated a study, in cooperation with Transport Canada and the Mexican Secretariat of Transportation and Communications, to develop U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada projections of future freight and passenger volumes over the next 30 years (2015 – 2045) from a North American framework and a regional border perspective.

Truck Maximum (or Worst) Reliability Index Map is a display of the highest reported index for each roadway segment from among the PM3 5 time periods:

• Truck weekday morning peak 6am-10am
• Truck weekday midday 10am-4pm
• Truck weekday evening peak 4pm-8pm
• Truck weekend 6am-8pm
• Truck overnight 8pm-6am

FHWA NPMRDS (National Performance Management Research Data Set): FHWA has acquired a second (v2) national data set of average travel times on the National Highway System for use in its performance measures and management activities.

The Passenger Level of Travel Time Reliability Index (LOTTR) is calculated per 23 CFR §490.511.

LOTTR = 80th Percentile Travel Time /50th Percentile Travel Time.

Truck Travel Time Reliability (TTTR) Index is calculated per 23 CFR §490.611.

TTTR=95th Percentile Travel Time /50th Percentile Travel Time.
